Hello fellow adventurer,
Are you wondering why Albania is becoming an attraction for hikers? I am The Sports Guru and I will help answer your question:
When I googled new hiking trails in Europe, Albania was the first to pop on my screen. So, I booked my ticket the same night and that was the beginning of a splendid adventure:
With more than 70% of the country being montainous which makes for some incredible hiking trails, along with some amazing views, Albania has become one of Europe's most electrifying destinations.
The country roars with spectacular mountains, twinkling coasts and charming villages. Well, just imagine the splendor of the Italian coast or the majesty of the Swiss Alps but at a fraction of the cost – with a fraction of the tourists.
Albania is still so virgin and undiscovered that it feels like your own personal trekking park.
And there is SO much more the country offers than just mountains (although the mountains are a huge selling point) like: Warm people who are so thrilled to welcome you on their land that you feel at home, yummy amazing food, beautiful beaches, cheap… everything. Albania is a real backpacker’s paradise.
One attraction that is considered unique for this country is the Komani Lake. Once built by the communist regime to provide electrical power through the use of hydropower plants, this lake has become one of the main touristic attractions in the country with many companies now offering “3 hours ferry rides” to cross it.
Another feature that you just cannot miss in Albania is the “Albanian Alps” … Wow. There’s really something special about being in the Albanian Alps: a feeling that can’t be put into words.
Two main mountain villages represent the core of these alps and are both considered national parks: Valbona and Theth. These two valleys that are separated by majestic mountain peaks will offer you all the natural sceneries that will make your hikes ones to be remembered. From dense forests, to rocky peaks, crystal clear rivers, waterfalls and ponds, this adventure is not to be missed!
So book your next trip to Albania to experience that feeling first hand and to enjoy that rustic adventure while it lasts...
Trust me: I am the Guru afterall!
