Winter Trip | 2025 | 09 to 16 February | Few Spots Left |
The itinerary
We will meet you upon your arrival to Kuusamo airport in northern Finland, in order to take you to our cosy winter home for the next week! We will stay at a small, eco friendly resort, right in the middle of the wilderness; you can snowshoe right from your room!
After check-in, we will have a briefing to explain more about the weeks' adventures, and we will be receiving our winter equipment which we will by yours for the rest of the week.
We will end the day with a cosy dinner by the fire, ready for our week ahead!
After breakfast, we will get a snowshoe introduction from our guide, and then head off into the national park which is full of snow packed routes and trees, rivers, waterfalls and many picture perfect sceneries.
With good luck, we will see the White Dipper diving into open water in search of food or Siberian Jays flying in the trees. We will be back just in time for a yummy warming lunch at the cottage. You will have a free afternoon to enjoy the surroundings and make memories with your fellow adventurers. Dont forget you can always use the sauna and hot tub (and roll in the snow)!
Let’s explore a Scandinavian-born sport – cross-country skiing! The skiing track starts just from our doorstep.
We know that you might not be familiar with how to Cross-country ski, so dont worry, your guide will be teaching you the basic techniques, so you will be able to enjoy a few laps in the Juuma lake area.
Whatever your level of expertise in this sport, a lot of fun is guaranteed, surrounded by breathtaking snowy landscapes.
After lunch, you are free to perfect your skiing skills, do some more snowshoeing, use the traditional Finnish sauna and outdoor hot tub- or just read a book by the fire!
Today we will take you on an unforgettable 10 km husky sled ride through the hundred-
year-old forests of Riisitunturi National Park. We will be briefed on how to control the husky sled (each sled takes 2 people, one dirver, one passenger- we change half way) and then we head into the untouched wilderness.
We will be served a warm lunch in a tent by a roaring fire, before returning to our cabins.
The day will not end here!
Lapland is a place of magic, and after dinner we will effort to witness one of the most magical natural phenomenons –the aurora, or northern lights! Fitted with headlamps and snowshoes, we will walk through the starry night, with the hope to witness the magical dance of the Aurora, or observe a sky full of stars.
However, remember to wish upon many stars, as catching the aurora is in the hands of mother nature!
On this day you can choose to ski, snowboard, visit a reindeer farm, go exploring on a snowmobile, race with a karting car on ice, or even ice skate on a frozen lake.
You will be dropped off and picked up from the nearby ski resort of Ruka.
The lunch at this day will be at your own expense, since depending on the activity you will choose, different options are available!
You can ofcourse also stay at the cabins, go to the sauna or the hot tub, or use your snowshoes or skis to go for a self-guided adventure!
Today you will be taught the ancient art of quinzhee (aka Igloo) building. Using shovels and spades and working in groups, we will create a mound of snow, which is later hollowed out to make sleeping quarters. During this day, we will also be taught certain wilderness skills, like building a fire in the snow.
When your quinzhee is ready, you will have the opportunity to spend the night in it (sleeping bags will be provided), however, don’t be scared, your cosy cabin is just a
few hundred meters away, and you can easily get back to your room whenever you want during the night!
Today we snowshoe through the stunning Riisitunturi National Park, another trip highlight!
Famous for its snow-crowned “monster trees” and stunning landscapes, we will hike up to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness and lake Kitkajärvi, Europe’s largest spring water lake.
Along the way you will also learn about the arctic nature, way of life, and enjoy a picnic lunch by the fire.
This is sadly also the last day of our magical winter wonderland adventure, so as a last farewell, we will enjoy a special four-course farewell dinner at our camp's restaurant.
It is time to leave this beautiful winter wonderland- our hearts break a little every time we have to leave this peaceful white haven behind!

Let us start by saying that it is very essential to have a medical & travel insurance on these kind of trips.
First thing to do when choosing the proper travel and medical insurance for the trip is to check the heighest altitude reached during the expedition.
Then, check with your current medical insurance if it covers you for this altitude. If not try to search for a company that does.
